Bruce Grove – Bruce Castle Fête, Tottenham (1916)

Bruce Castle Fête, Tottenham (1916) | Bruce Grove

Now a museum and local history archive, nearby Bruce Castle was a stately home for many centuries and is reputed to be haunted by Constantina Hare, a wife of a former owner Henry Hare. Henry is thought to have died in 1680, over something to do with his relationship with the Duchess of Somerset. Since then, the building has housed refugees from the French Revolution and other philanthropic and community efforts (it’s now the site of a public park.) In this footage, the Lord Mayor gives a speech and surveys stalls at a fête raising money for soldiers and sailors who have lost their sight in the Great War.
